About the Book

By the 2040s, international war has become something people study in history instead of something they expect to live through.

Humanity has not stopped changing. Autonomous machines share the roads and skies. Medicine, transportation, construction, policing, firefighting, and everyday work are being reshaped by technologies that once belonged to science fiction. Permanent communities and industries now exist beyond Earth, where the routines of work, family, maintenance, boredom, ambition, and bad days have followed humanity into space.

But for most people, history is happening somewhere in the background.

They still get up for work. They repair cars, fight fires, raise children, deliver packages, answer emergency calls, fix broken machinery, argue with customers, worry about money, make plans, fall in love, grow old, and try to get home at the end of the day. On Earth and off it, extraordinary technology becomes ordinary the moment people have to live with it.
