Overview

USS North Carolina (SSN-777) is a Virginia-class fast-attack submarine. The class was designed for anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, intelligence collection, land-attack missions, surveillance, and support to special operations forces.

Technical basis

The submarine combines S9G nuclear propulsion, a pump-jet propulsor, photonics masts, digital ship-control systems, four torpedo tubes, vertical-launch cruise-missile capability, and a lockout chamber for submerged special-operations deployment.
