D5LE2 is the planned next-generation development of the U.S. Trident II D5 submarine-launched ballistic-missile family.
Technical basis
U.S. Navy Strategic Systems Programs is developing D5LE2 to extend the Trident architecture into the Columbia-class era using updated components while preserving proven elements of the existing weapon family.
In The Mine
The United States offers D5LE2 missiles for the second planetary-defense carrier. The offer is declined because the already-flown JL-3 architecture avoids reopening structural, electrical, guidance, and software integration. No fictional D5LE2 modification is actually undertaken.
