Shackleton Ship-Transfer Rover

Fictional 2044 pressurized lunar-port vehicle designed to move passengers and cargo directly between surface facilities and elevated spacecraft airlocks.

The Shackleton ship-transfer rover combines a low wheeled propulsion platform with a pressurized passenger-and-cargo compartment mounted on an integrated scissor lift. Its purpose is to make routine spacecraft boarding possible without requiring suited passengers to perform an exterior lunar EVA simply to reach a hatch.

Propulsion skateboard

Wheels, electric traction motors, batteries, suspension, steering, and surface-drive hardware remain in a low chassis that stays on the lunar surface while the upper compartment moves vertically. The low platform keeps the vehicle’s driving mass close to the ground and separates locomotion hardware from the pressure vessel.

Pressurized transfer compartment

The occupied upper module is a sealed passenger-and-cargo cabin with seating, windows, life-support connections, and a docking interface. It functions as a mobile pressure vessel rather than an open rover bed.

Scissor-lift docking system

A built-in scissor mechanism raises the complete pressurized compartment to the height of a spacecraft personnel airlock while the propulsion skateboard remains on the surface. Fine alignment brings the rover collar to the ship interface, after which the docking hardware captures, seals, and completes pressure-equalization checks before the hatch is opened.

Operating concept

The vehicle is specialized lunar-port ground-support equipment. It allows ordinary launch or interior pressure suits to remain sufficient for routine transfer, while full EVA capability is reserved for work that actually requires exposure to the lunar environment.

Engineering basis

The design combines mature battery-electric industrial vehicles, pressurized lunar-rover concepts, aircraft-style passenger transfer equipment, scissor-lift mechanisms, and spacecraft docking/airlock practice. The integrated mobile pressure-vessel and elevated hard-docking configuration is a fictional 2044 extrapolation.
