Overview

The Shield is not a separate airframe designation. It is Pakistan’s national name for the Chinese PC-92 Watchtower, acquired largely off the shelf and altered only where required for Pakistani communications, identification, crewing, and operating procedures.

Its mission remains consistent with the Chinese Protector: persistent observation, evidence collection, warning, command coordination, and tightly bounded force.

Production history

The aircraft is produced on the same C929-based PC-92 line as China’s Protector. Pakistan accepts the standard Chinese mission-aircraft architecture and makes minimal national modifications rather than funding an independent Watchtower development program.

Technical basis

Persistent ISR, secure command links, loitering systems, warning devices, bounded precision force, and recorded authorization form the platform’s operational basis.
