K-555 Knyaz Pozharsky
Real Russian Navy Project 955A Borei-A nuclear-powered ballistic-missile submarine commissioned in 2025.
K-555 Knyaz Pozharsky is the fifth Project 955A Borei-A SSBN. The class is the improved development of the original Project 955 Borei and forms part of Russia’s modern sea-based strategic-deterrent force.
Hull and propulsion
Borei-A submarines are approximately 170 meters long and displace about 24,000 tonnes submerged. A nuclear steam plant built around an OK-650V reactor drives the propulsion system through steam turbines and a pump-jet propulsor, giving the class the long endurance expected of a strategic ballistic-missile submarine.
Sensors
The class uses the MGK-600B Irtysh-Amfora-Borei sonar suite, including a conformal bow array. The design integrates the sonar, navigation, communications, reactor plant, and strategic-missile compartment into a purpose-built SSBN rather than adapting an attack-submarine hull.
Armament
The principal strategic weapon is the D-30 Bulava system with sixteen 3M30 Bulava submarine-launched ballistic missiles. The class also carries 533 mm torpedo tubes and dedicated countermeasure launchers.
Service
Knyaz Pozharsky was laid down in 2016, launched in 2024, and commissioned into the Russian Navy in July 2025. It joined the Northern Fleet.
