Glock as a manufacturer
Glock GmbH is an Austrian firearms manufacturer founded by engineer Gaston Glock in 1963 and headquartered in Deutsch-Wagram, Austria. The company initially produced industrial and military goods before developing a service pistol for an Austrian military competition at the beginning of the 1980s.
The resulting Glock 17 entered Austrian military and police service in 1982. Its commercial success established Glock as one of the most recognizable modern handgun manufacturers and helped normalize polymer-framed service pistols in military, police, and civilian markets.
The Glock operating family
Most Glock pistols share a polymer frame, steel slide and barrel, striker-fired ignition, locked-breech short-recoil operation, detachable box magazine, and passive internal safeties.
