Overview

The F-22 was designed primarily to establish air superiority against advanced opponents while retaining precision-strike, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance capability.

Technical basis

Its performance comes from low-observable shaping and materials, internal weapons carriage, thrust-vectoring engines, sustained supersonic cruise without afterburner, active electronically scanned radar, sensor fusion, and secure datalinks.
