MAPMAKERS TECHNOLOGY REFERENCE

COMAC C949

The C949 is COMAC’s long-range low-boom supersonic passenger-aircraft project.

Technical basis

COMAC engineers publicly described the C949 concept in 2025 as a Mach 1.6 aircraft targeting roughly 11,000 km range and substantially reduced sonic-boom noise compared with Concorde. Published design work includes a reverse-camber fuselage intended to shape and weaken shock waves.

Mapmakers timeline

The Mine carries the existing program forward nineteen years to a small operational production fleet by 2044. Early aircraft are accelerated through Chinese state procurement and become useful high-priority transports for moving senior staff, astronauts, submariners, engineers, and urgent technical personnel among globally separated headquarters and launch sites.
