Overview

The C-17 combines intercontinental range with the ability to carry outsized cargo and operate from airfields that would be restrictive for larger strategic transports.

Technical basis

Four turbofan engines, a high-lift wing, reinforced landing gear, a rear cargo ramp, advanced flight controls, and short-field performance allow the aircraft to move heavy forces rapidly and deliver them close to operational areas.
