Land Rover and JLR
Land Rover is a British four-wheel-drive vehicle marque whose first production vehicle appeared in 1948. The marque became known for utility vehicles designed for agriculture, military service, expedition travel, public safety, and difficult terrain. Range Rover, introduced later as a more refined vehicle family, extended that engineering tradition into the luxury sport-utility market.
Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles are designed and manufactured by JLR, a British automotive company headquartered in the Coventry area and owned by Tata Motors. JLR also produces Jaguar vehicles and develops the shared engineering, powertrain, safety, and electronic systems used across its luxury-vehicle portfolio.
Armored conversion
Protected Land Rover and Range Rover vehicles may be produced by specialist armoring firms rather than as standard retail models. Typical conversions can include ballistic glass, a reinforced passenger cell, protected fuel and electrical systems, run-flat tires, upgraded suspension and brakes, communications equipment, emergency lighting, and additional door and floor protection. The added armor substantially increases weight and usually requires corresponding chassis and braking changes.
